Airtel's new
backbone Ciena networks meet exploding demand for high-speed data services.
Additionally, it optimally utilizes available fiber resources to deliver
ultra-fast broadband experiences on 4G/5G/FTTH architectures. The deployment is
part of Airtel's Project Leap network transformation program, which also
enables the network to quickly respond to simultaneous failures by
recalculating and rerouting traffic based on available network resources.
Airtel's new
backbone architecture creates a solid foundation that can operate seamlessly at
data rates of 400 Gbps and above across technology generations, creating a
future-proof, scalable network. Additionally, this architecture enables low
latency and software-driven connectivity for cloud infrastructure, rapid
migration to virtualized platforms, and 5G readiness, which is essential for a
world of connected devices and things.

Airtel Chief Technology Officer Randeep Sehon said: We are excited to be
working with Ciena to build his network of one of the largest optical spines
and leaves in the world. This is also a major step toward 5G readiness by
leveraging our vast fiber optic resources. This not only increases network
capacity, but also secures traffic and improves service delivery to all
customers. Additionally, the combination of
Photonics
and advanced software intelligence enables an intelligent, agile network that
simplifies end-to-end deployment. ” speed and the ability to handle multiple
fiber failures, providing users with extremely high capacity and uninterrupted
service. The network also supports on-demand bandwidth, optical VPN,
delay-based routing, and dynamic data center interconnect, offering a unique
value proposition to Airtel's residential and business customers.
